  • 3 December 1978 — Michigan becomes one of the first states to institute a deposit for beverage containers. It is the only state at $0.10 per container.
  • 11 December 1934 — Fire sweeps through the Kern Hotel in Lansing, killing 32. Among the dead were seven legislators.
  • 19 December 1934 — Future Detroit Tigers hall of fame player Al Kaline is born in Baltimore, Maryland
