3 December 1978 — Michigan becomes one of the first states to institute a deposit for beverage containers. It is the only state at $0.10 per container.
11 December 1934 — Fire sweeps through the Kern Hotel in Lansing, killing 32. Among the dead were seven legislators.

29 December 1936 — A massive two month–long sit-in occurs at a General Motors facility in Flint, eventually resulting in the recognition of the United Auto Workers by the automotive companies.
