Cone—established as West Milan—is an unincorporated community in southwestern Milan Township, Monroe County, Michigan. It is located about six miles southwest of Milan and five miles northeast of Britton. The community can be accessed via U.S. Highway 23 exit 22. The ZIP code is 48160, but the United States Postal Service lists Cone as an unacceptable city reference. Instead, the postal city is Milan. During its history, however, it had an independent post office.
The community was first known as West Milan when a post office was established in 1859. The original postmaster was John C. Cone. In 1880, the Wabash Western Railroad opened a station named "Cone," named after the original settler. In 1881, the post office changed its name to correspond to the railroad station. Around 1917, the post office ceased to function and was merged into the operations in Milan.
